Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender – A Classic Choice?

The Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender is currently one of the most popular consumer blenders on the market today. I’ve been able to spend a few months with one and thought it would be a great time to do a write-up about my experiences. I really felt it would be best to wait until the blender got through a few hundred cycles before doing this article. Just in case there were any problems that arose, and also to make sure I tried blending a wide variety of ingredients.

I should note that this blender tracks how many “cycles” it’s been through, which is a nice little feature to have. Every time you turn the blender on you’ll be able to see the cycle counter increase. It’s kinda like a game where you win a healthier body, presumably.

I’ll try to cover as many pros and cons as possible that I come across. It’s important for the consumer to have as much information as possible before making a large purchase such as this. I hope you can find everything in this article useful in your quest for the perfect blender. I’ll begin by talking about the performance of the machine.

Power

blendtec total blender classicThis blender is equipped with a 3 horsepower motor, yes that’s 3 horses of power. Travel back 200 years ago when we were using horses to pull buggies, now that power is on your kitchen counter. I wouldn’t say it’s excessive power though. It’s apparent very early on that there are huge benefits of having such a powerful motor. I think it would be pretty difficult going back to using regular mass-market blenders after using one of these.

The typical blenders on the market just feel so weak in comparison, especially when you see them struggle with things this blender chews through with ease. I’d say most blenders that are 2 horsepower and up are pretty comparable in terms of what they can handle blending though. I made sure to try ice, nuts, and every other tough ingredient I could get my hands on. There are actually videos online of the Blendtec models crushing up concrete, so I feel confident in saying it will handle whatever you throw at it.

Functionality

After you’ve heard all of this you’re probably curious as to how well the machine can actually do its tasks right? Well you may have thought it was just a blender, but you’d be wrong if you thought of the machine in such a basic way. It can actually do quite a bit more including doubling as a juicer, mixer, and food processor!

It includes 6 different automatic presets to make your life a lot easier. These allow you to add your ingredients and let the machine take care of the entire blending process. The presets are the following: ice cream, ice crush, soups, sauces, whole juice, and smoothie.

Grinding and Chopping

As I’ve previously stated, the machine has zero issues while grinding nuts or any hard ingredients. I’ve used the blender to make homemade chocolate peanut butter and was very happy with the results, everything came out creamy and delicious. I was also impressed and thankful that I rarely had to use a tamper to push ingredients down into the blades. I guess it’s thanks to the design of the jar which has 5 sides.

The pulse button is great when you want to have more control over delicate blending. Chopping ingredients was much better than I expected thanks to this. The pieces weren’t all the same shape and size of course but at least it didn’t end up turning everything into mush.

Juicing and Smoothies

I was interested in getting a nice juicer for the longest time, but I never really jumped on one. Thankfully a powerful blender like this one can handle that task easily. I did have some problems getting pomegranate seeds to completely blend. I just left the machine running for a little while longer than usual and that seemed to do the trick. Unfortunately, that has a side effect of heating up the liquid a bit, so you might need to either add ice or put it in the fridge to cool. Every other fruit turned to juice almost instantly but it’s something to be noted.

I didn’t have any trouble making smoothies in the blender. Everything mixed pretty quickly and I didn’t notice any chunks of ice or fruit in my smoothies. I’m sure we’ve all tried to make smoothies in cheap blenders before and have dealt with chunks of fruit or ice in them. It’s nice to know this blender can produce a smooth consistency at least. I typically made fresh juice in the mornings and protein smoothies after I exercised. Both were easy to prepare and cleanup was easy enough.

Soups

Yes, you can make soups in the Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender! The heat generated from the motor is enough to turn your soup recipes into scalding lava, granted you leave it on long enough. You could also just blend everything together and finish it on the stovetop if you wanted. That’s just adding more steps and dirtying more dishes though, and you’ve been working all day so enjoy the convenience.

It’s really a great way to free up the stove when you’re cooking a lot of food and need a quick side dish to go along with your meal. The soups I made came out extremely creamy. The pulse button, in particular, is perfect for mixing in extra ingredients right at the end of the cooking process too.

Accessories

I’ve looked around online and in retail stores for accessories for the Blendtec blenders. There really aren’t too many aside from the typical tampers and replacement parts you’d expect. As far as I’m aware, there are three blender jars to choose from: The WildSide, the FourSide, and the Twister Jar. I think I’m most impressed with the WildSide jar because it’s capable of holding a total of 90-ounces. That jar, in particular, is important if you have a large family or you’re throwing a party and need enough for everyone.

The FourSide jar is your standard 64-ounce container. I think it’s the unique shape that limits the need to use a tamper while blending. The Twister Jar, on the other hand, is 16-ounces and is used specifically for thick recipes. Something like homemade peanut butter or that sort of thing would be some examples.

Negatives

Nothing can be perfect and there are a few minor annoyances I’d like to mention. The noise generated by the blender is a bit loud at its highest setting, but I suppose that’s to be expected with such a powerful motor inside though.

One tip I’d like to share with you, try placing a rubber mat underneath the blender to reduce the noise a little. The mat reduces some of the vibration against the countertop. Most recipes can be prepared anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, so it won’t be turned on for too long anyway.

Conclusion

The Blendtec TB-621-25 Total Blender Classic has some great features and is a really powerful machine to have in your kitchen. It has a digital interface with 6 convenient preset buttons as well. This makes the blender even more convenient to use. It’s amazing being able to push a button and walk away until everything is finished automatically blending. It seems like the buttons are sturdy and have a nice “click” to them, so I don’t expect any issues with them failing in the future.

I should point out that this blender does include a long 7-year warranty. That means if anything breaks, that isn’t caused by human error, will be able to be repaired for free from Blendtec. This warranty coverage gives you some peace of mind, knowing that your blender will last you a long time.

There are also so many healthy recipes available if you’re trying to lose weight or take care of your body. It’s a common trend lately and I feel that having a blender like this is one of the best ways to eat healthier food. I love making fresh juices or smoothies during the day and they really don’t take much time to prepare. The Blendtec models come in various bundles, there are some that include the WildSide jar or FourSide jar. So you have to decide on which one you prefer.
