The Vitamix 6300 blender was one of the highest-end models that Vitamix made. One of its key features is the combination of manual controls, along with 3 presets you can use for automatic blending. There have been many newer models that have been released to steal its thunder. But is it still a viable choice in 2019?
In this review, I’ll go over the various positives and negatives of the product to help you decide whether it’s worth the extra cost. These machines are obviously pricey compared to alternatives, so it’s important to know what you’re getting and what to expect in terms of performance.
I’ll try to cover everything I feel is important, including any unforeseen issues. Also be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page if you’re looking for current prices or deals on this model.
Vitamix blenders, in general, have an extremely powerful motor in them. The Vitamix 6300 blender is no exception as it contains a 2.0-peak horsepower motor inside. It’s capable of dealing with practically anything you can throw at it. That’s the general theme of the Vitamix brand. Being able to deal with a variety of hard ingredients with ease where other blenders struggle. It grinds nuts into a smooth mixture, makes perfect smoothies, and yet it’s also capable of preparing delicate soups. I should note that this model does use the old style 64-ounce container.
In terms of loudness, it’s what you would expect it to be, having the power of two horses on your countertop. This is especially true when turning the speed dial all the way up. Some people have complained that you need ear protection while it’s running on its highest setting. I’ve never needed to go to such extreme measures though. The majority of all blenders are loud machines, even more so when looking at the high-end brands.
All of this power generates an impressive amount of heat while running. This is where the machine’s cooling system comes into play to keep things running smoothly. In the event the machine gets too hot, it’ll turn off to protect itself from overheating. I haven’t witnessed any failures or had the machine turn off on its own due to excess heat. Still, the feature gives some peace of mind when running the machine for extended amounts of time.
The Vitamix 6300 compares favorably to the rest of the models. Yet it has some convenient features to help make things a little easier. Most notably are the three presets: hot soups, smoothies, and frozen desserts. With these settings, the machine goes into automatic mode. This is where you can add all of your ingredients, choose your preset, and the machine will make your desired course automatically. I used this a few times to prepare smoothies in the morning while I was doing other things. I was pleasantly surprised with how simple and helpful it ended up being.
I’m slightly disappointed that the Vitamix 6300 still uses the old-style blender jar. This makes the machine noticeably taller than some other models such as the 7500 or 750 professional series. In fact, the total machine height tops out at a whopping 20.5″! This makes it unlikely to fit under your kitchen cabinets, which is a common complaint about the machines that use the old-style container. Most people just set their blender jar next to the base of the machine though, so it isn’t a huge deal really if you don’t mind doing that.
I usually use the pulse button to blend delicate ingredients such as tomatoes and lettuce. The blender works pretty well for the most part at that task. It’s important to add any delicate ingredient at the end of preparing a recipe though. Otherwise, you’ll just be left with a slurry. Grinding, on the other hand, works extremely well, though you will have to tamp more frequently to make sure everything gets incorporated. I’ve mentioned this in other reviews but I love to make homemade nut butter and this machine does great at handling them.
Smoothies and Juice
I absolutely love to make fresh juice and smoothies in the morning. One of the best ways to start the day off right is by making a natural energy infused cocktail! This is probably one of the most common ways people use their Vitamix machines. While using the Vitamix 6300 I found that it performed extremely well with a variety of smoothie recipes. All ingredients were incorporated without any traces of fruit or vegetable bits. Likewise, fresh juice was extracted without any problems. Be careful not to run your machine for too long though. Your juice or smoothie mixture will start to heat up due to the heat generated from the 2-peak horsepower motor. Try adding a few ice cubes to help keep the mixture cool.
If you’d like more information on the topic of juicing please be sure to read my other article on the website: the pros and cons of juicing. It goes into the positive and negative aspects of drinking fresh juice and what you should be aware of.
I enjoy making soups in a blender while I’m preparing my entrées and other side dishes. As I previously mentioned, it has its own dedicated preset specifically tailored for soups. Ideally, this means that you can add all of your soup ingredients for a recipe and simply switch the blender dial to the soup preset. Unfortunately, some soup recipes require more manual control so while the blender can prepare great soups, the soup preset is only a generalized setting. It works well with the recipes in the included cookbook though and it’s easy enough to blend for longer if a recipe needs it.
I only tried to make one frozen dessert recipe for this Vitamix 6300 review. It was a raspberry sorbet which used frozen raspberries as the main ingredient. The setting seems to work pretty well, though the recipe I found was directly from the Vitamix website, so I would expect it to work accordingly. I imagine you could substitute the raspberries with any frozen fruit in the event you prefer strawberries or something even more exotic.
Of course, there are multiple accessories to purchase with your blender. These include alternative blender jars, including the newer style container which is shorter but holds the same 64-ounces. There’s also a dry grains container which is used for grinding your own grains if you make bread or used to prepare dough recipes. It’s good to have the option of a variety of blender containers to find something that suits your needs.
As a tip, I would recommend looking at Costco and other retailers as they occasionally offer Vitamix bundles, which includes multiple blender jars and other perks. Also, if you’re looking to make your own fresh juices, look into buying a filtration bag which you use to remove pulp from your juice. Unless you enjoy pulp and want more fiber in your diet.
What is a review without covering a product’s negatives? There are a few faults that I’d like you to be aware of. I’ll start by repeating what I mentioned earlier, that the machine is too tall and probably will not fit under your kitchen cabinets. You can set the jar next to the machine but I like to keep my appliances set up and ready. That’s just my preference though and you may not mind doing that.
Before I end this I would like to mention one of the biggest benefits of owning a Vitamix blender. The Vitamix 6300 blender includes a full seven-year warranty and there’s even a ten-year warranty that’s available that you can upgrade to. This provides huge long-term value as a Vitamix customer and it gives you more peace of mind knowing that you’ll have a working machine for, at the very least, the next seven years. I’ll also mention that the machine is built in the USA which is pretty rare these days and is nice to be aware of. I’m sure it contributes to the overall price of the product so it’s something to keep in mind.
Here’s a video demonstrating the 6300 blender making a hot tortilla soup.
This blender does perform a bit better than other models such as the 5200 or 7500. I think your decision will mainly come down to whether the 3 presets are enough of a benefit to you. All of the presets do work really well with the hundreds of recipes in the included cookbook, but it is possible that other recipes may require more adjustments to get right. It does offer a nice combination of total control and convenience with the way it’s designed. You have to decide how much convenience you want and what price you can find this at.
The seven-year warranty alone can make this a better buy than cheaper brands in the long-term. There’s the famous saying, “buy nice or buy twice”, and it definitely fits here when talking about the Vitamix blenders. It’s possible you can find a good bundle or deal on this model, at which point I’d say go for it. Overall it handles all of the tasks with ease and is a product you’d likely want to incorporate into your daily life.
The annoyances with this model were minor and I appreciated the pre-programmed presets to make the blending process more convenient while preparing other food. It also helps you get perfect results every time if you’re using the included cookbook. I’d say look at the pros and cons and try to decide if the benefits are worth the extra money to suit your personal needs.
Newest Vitamix 6300 Blender Offers
Note: This model has now been discontinued by Vitamix! The best deal at the moment is for a renewed machine on Amazon. I’ll add a button link below directly to the offer page for your convenience. If you’d rather have a brand new machine, I’d recommend considering the 750 model.
