Vitamix 6300 – (Discontinued) What Are the Best Alternatives?

The Vitamix 6300 blender was once one of the highest-end models that Vitamix offered. One of its key features over the popular Vitamix 5200 is the addition of 3 presets you can use for automatic blending. These automatic modes add a ton of convenience and it’s a feature that’s even been added to their latest models. A lot of new models have been released since the introduction of the 6300, so you may be wondering whether this is still a viable choice in 2022.

Vitamix 6300I’ll review the various positives and negatives of the blender to help you decide whether it’s worth the investment These high-end machines are obviously pricey compared to some alternatives, so it’s important to know what you’re getting and what to expect in terms of performance.

Update: Today’s Deal: The 6300 model is discontinued. Please consider the newer Vitamix V1200 model as a more modern alternative! Click to view the Amazon offer!

    Motor Performance

All Vitamix blenders are known for having extremely powerful motors contained in them. The Vitamix 6300 blender is no exception as it contains a 2.0-peak horsepower motor inside. It’s capable of dealing with practically anything you can throw at it. That’s the general theme of the Vitamix brand. Being able to deal with a variety of hard or difficult ingredients with ease where other blenders struggle. It can grind nuts into a smooth mixture for homemade nut butters, it makes perfect smoothies without large ice chunks, and yet it’s also capable of preparing delicate soups. I’ll take a second to mention that this specific model does use the old style 64-ounce container, which is much taller than their newer stout jar.

In terms of loudness, it’s what you would expect it to be, having the power of two full horses on your kitchen counter. This will be especially true when turning the manual speed dial all the way up to the max. When you have a motor this large, noise is something that’s inevitable. The majority of all blenders are loud machines, even more so when looking at these high performance brands. I wouldn’t say that it’s unbearable by any means but it’s something to note if you haven’t used a blender in awhile. You probably won’t be preparing a smoothie in the middle of the night.

    It’s Getting Hot In Here

This beefy motor generates an impressive amount of heat while running at extended periods of time. This is where the machine’s air cooling system comes into play to help keep things running smoothly. There are vents located around the base of the blender to flow air across the motor when in use. If the vents get blocked and the heat rises, perhaps by a towel or something, the machine is smart enough to turn itself off to protect itself from overheating and damage. This is a fantastic feature to have and will give you some peace of mind when running the machine for extended amounts of time.

    Functionality

In terms of the functionality, the Vitamix 6300 compares very favorably to other models in the legacy line. Yet it has some additional convenient features to help make things a bit more convenient. Most notably are the included three presets to prepare hot soups, smoothies, and frozen desserts. With these settings on the dial, the machine goes into an automatic mode. This is where you add all your ingredients into the container, select your desired preset, and let the machine take over everything automatically. The presets basically run a specialized cycle so you have consistent results. You can start a soup for dinner and turn your back on the blender to do other things until it’s finished. It’s such a simple way to get continuous results when preparing certain recipes.

It’s a bit unfortunate that the Vitamix 6300 uses the old-style “tall” blender jar. This makes the overall height of the machine noticeably taller than some newer models, such as the 7500 or 750 professional series. In fact, the total machine height tops out at a whopping 20.5″, that’s about 52cm. This makes it somewhat unlikely to fit underneath your kitchen cabinets when storing, which is a common minor complaint about the machines that use this older container. Most people just set their blender jar next to the base of the machine, so it isn’t really that big of a deal if you don’t mind taking the jar off each time.

    Chopping & Grinding

I tend to prefer using the pulse button to blend delicate ingredients such as tomatoes and lettuce. The blender works well for the most part at handling that task. However, it’s important to add any delicate ingredients towards the end of preparing a recipe though if possible. Otherwise, you’ll be left with a slurry or mush instead of ingredients that are chopped.

Grinding, in comparison, works extremely well; be aware that you’ll have to use the included tamper to push down the sides of the jar to ensure everything gets incorporated. I’ve mentioned this in other reviews but I love to make homemade nut butters and this machine does a great job at handling them. Getting the dry container will do an even better job at preparing those if you have an interest in making them often.

    Smoothies & Juice

Many people absolutely love to make fresh juice and smoothies in the morning with their Vitamix. One of the best ways to start the day off right is by making a natural energy infused cocktail. This is honestly one of the most common ways people use their Vitamix machines. While using the Vitamix 6300 it has performed extremely well with a variety of smoothie recipes online. All of the ingredients were incorporated thoroughly, without any large chunks of fruit or vegetable bits.

Likewise, fresh juice was extracted without any issues. Just be careful not to run your machine for too long when preparing these two things. Your juice or smoothie mixture will start to heat up due to the heat generated from the large motor. You can try adding a few extra ice cubes during the blend to help keep the mixture cool.

If you’re interested in more information on the topic of juicing, please be sure to read our other article on the website: The Pros And Cons Of Juicing. The article goes into detail about the positive and negative aspects of drinking fresh juice and what you should be aware of.

    Hot Soups

I enjoy making hot soups in a blender while I’m preparing my entrées and other side dishes in the kitchen. As I previously mentioned, the Vitamix 6300 has its own dedicated preset specifically tailored for hot soups. This means that you can add all of your soup ingredients and simply switch the blender dial to the soup preset and let it run.

Unfortunately, some soup recipes require more manual control so while the blender can prepare great soups, the soup preset is overall, just a generalized setting. It works well with the recipes in the included cookbook and it’s easy enough to blend for longer if a different recipe needs it. I’d say it’s a good starting point and you may find yourself using it pretty frequently. Watch the following video demonstrating the 6300 blender making a hot tortilla soup.

    Frozen Desserts

I’ve only attempted to make one frozen dessert recipe for this Vitamix 6300 review. It was a raspberry sorbet which used frozen raspberries as the main ingredient. The automatic preset seemed to work pretty well, though the recipe I found was directly from the Vitamix website, so I would expect it to work correctly.

I imagine you could substitute the raspberries with any frozen fruit in the event you prefer strawberries or something even more exotic. But all of that will differ depending on the amount of moisture and the consistency of the fruit. There are an incredibly large amount of frozen dessert recipes online, specifically for blenders, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding something that suits your personal taste.

    Additional Accessories

There are multiple accessories available that you can purchase for your blender. These include alternative blender jars, including the shorter container which holds the same 64-ounces as the tall jar. There’s also a dry grains container which is used for grinding your own grains if you make bread, used to prepare dough, or making nut butter recipes. It’s really nice having the option to buy new blender containers to find something that suits your needs.

You could take a look at Costco, since they occasionally offer Vitamix bundles, which sometimes include multiple blender jars and other perks. Also, if you’re looking to make your own fresh juices, look into buying a filtration bag as well, which is used to remove the pulp from your juice. Unless you loving drinking pulp and want more fiber in your diet of course.

    Any Negatives?

Now, what is a review without covering a product’s negatives or downsides? There are a few faults that I’d like you to be aware of. I’ll start by repeating what I mentioned earlier, that the machine is too tall and may not fit underneath your kitchen cabinets. The solution to this is removing the jar and setting it next to the machine, but I like to keep my appliances set up and ready at all times. That’s just my preference though and you may not mind doing that. Also, remember that these blenders are going to be a bit loud because of the motor in them. Some people place a rubberized mat under the blender to reduce vibration, and in turn, some of the noise. Just a few things to consider.

    Final Thoughts

One of the biggest benefits of owning a Vitamix 6300 was that it included a full seven-year warranty. You could even extend this to a ten-year warranty to further protect your investment. This provided massive long-term value as a Vitamix customer and gave you more peace of mind knowing that you’ll have a working machine for, at the very least, the next seven years. I’ll also mention that the machine was built in the USA which is pretty uncommon these days. I’m sure it contributes to the overall price of the product so it’s something to keep in mind when looking at the cost.

This blender does perform a bit better than other models such as the 5200 or 7500. I think your decision will mainly come down to whether the 3 presets are enough of a benefit to you. All of the presets do work really well with the hundreds of recipes in the included cookbook, but it is possible that other recipes may require more adjustments to get right. It offers a nice balance of manual control and convenience with the way it’s designed. You’ll have to be the one to decide whether the convenience is worth the extra price.

    Additional Details

In my opinion, the 7-year warranty alone makes this a better choice than buying a cheaper brand with a limited warranty. There’s the famous saying, “buy nice, or buy twice”, and it definitely fits here when talking about Vitamix blenders. The retail price of the Vitamix 6300 is around $600-$650, but you can typically find good bundles and deals on this model. Overall it handles all of the tasks with ease and is a product you’ll likely incorporate into your daily life.

I appreciated the pre-programmed presets to make the blending process more convenient while preparing certain food. It also helps you get perfect results every time if you’re using the included cookbook. I’d say look at the pros and cons and try to decide if the benefits are worth the extra money to suit your personal needs.

    Vitamix 6300 Blender Offers

Note: Hopefully this isn’t a complete shock to you, but the Vitamix 6300 has been discontinued by the Vitamix company. But there’s good news! There are several models available that replace and improve on the functionality and performance of the 6300. If you really want a legacy model as similar to the 6300 as possible, I’d recommend the Vitamix Pro 750. It has a motor that’s even more powerful, 5 preset modes instead of only 3, and comes with the newer stout jar to help it fit under cabinets more easily. I originally bought a Vitamix 5200 before I saw the 6300 model. I have tried using the 5200, it was OK but I returned it and got the 6300. The 6300 is conveniently versatile. You can use the preset while being able to fine tune your blending using the manual knob. I’d rather choose the presets(6300) over operating three switches and not getting consistency (5200). It’s worth the price difference. Even my young daughter benefits from the presets.
