Oster VERSA Pro Blender – Can It Beat A Vitamix?

The Oster Versa Pro blender is a high-end blender positioned as yet another alternative to owning a Vitamix. It offers similar features to certain models, the closest of which would be the 6300 or A2500. You get a variable speed dial to manually fine-tune your blend. Plus there are three automatic preset modes to choose from to take over the entire blending process.

Oster Versa Pro BlenderThere’s plenty of control and convenience being offered here. You can see on paper it appears to be a worthy choice if you’re looking to save some money. The real question is how well it performs compared to a real Vitamix machine. I’ll go over the various details and features to help you decide whether this blender suits your needs.

Performance

To start us off, there’s a big 1,400 watt motor inside this machine with blades that spin at over 250MPH. This is fast enough to shred hard ingredients and combine everything smoothly in your recipes. It definitely seems to offer more power over your typical mass-market blenders you might find on a discounted store shelf. The amount of power here should be adequate for most people I think. Here’s a video of the blender in action.

I know many people consider a Ninja brand blender and have been happy with their purchase. One of the negatives about them though is that you can’t make hot soups directly in them. This is due to how they’re built and connected with the blades. Thankfully, that issue doesn’t exist on the Versa Pro. You’re able to make hot soups right in the blender container. They get hot enough for steam to be produced, so it shouldn’t be a lukewarm mixture once you’re done.

There are also some safety features onboard including an automatic shutoff. This will trigger if you run the blender for long periods of time. It protects the crucial internal parts from becoming damaged and needing repair. Many modern blenders have this sort of feature and it should help ensure some longevity for your machine.

Design

Visually, the blender does have a relatively appealing design in my opinion. Most of the base is black with red tones found on the bottom of the machine and jar handle. Unfortunately, this seems to be the only color combination available at the moment. I personally would have liked to see other colors being offered, perhaps a blue or silver toned version? For anyone that does care about that sort of thing; I think your opinion on the matter will likely come down to how you feel about the color red.

Versa BaseThe overall size of the Versa Pro is somewhat large in comparison to a few other blenders. The dimensions are listed as being 9.3 x 10.3 x 17.6 inches. You may want to measure your kitchen cabinets to see how much clearance you have just in case. Another thing I should mention, the power cable is only 16″ long so you won’t be able to maneuver it too far from your wall.

Inside the jar you’ll find stainless-steel blades that spin at 28,000 RPM and up to 250 MPH. They’re a 6-point design which helps incorporate all of your ingredients more evenly. The spinning motion produces a vortex that sucks everything downward to be pulverized and shredded.

Functionality

The front of the machine is where you’ll be controlling everything. If you’re the type of person that loves to manually adjust the speeds of your blend and fine-tune your recipe, you’ll mainly want to use the variable control knob. This gives you customized power however you see fit to use it. A quick turn to the left also gives you a “programmed pulse”, perfect for light dishes such as a chunky salsa.

Versa Control Panel

One of the main features of the Oster Versa Pro is the three automatic modes. These run pre-programmed cycles that are built into the blender’s memory. The benefit they give you is consistent results. Using these will give you the exact same blend each and every time. It really takes the guesswork out of how long to blend something. All you have to do is add your ingredients and select whichever mode you want, the blender takes care of everything else. The modes are pretty self-explanatory. There’s a preset for Smoothie, Soup, and Dips/Spreads.

Accessories

Versa low profile container

Included with this model is a low-profile 64oz container. This is a pretty standard size among other high-end blenders and gives you some flexibility. It’s plenty big for large batches for a family or couples in the event you want to make more than just one smoothie. You could also use it to make huge frozen cocktails to share at a party, or maybe not share? Be aware, the blades in the container are permanently attached and cannot be removed. I’m not sure if that’s to improve reliability somehow or what the reasoning is.

There are two cookbooks inside the box with over 130 recipes to help get you started on your blending adventure. The recipe books include color pictures and have nutritional information. For thick recipes, you’ll be using the included tamper to help push ingredients down into the swirling vortex. Sometimes nut butters or thick dips tend to stick to the sides of the container and need a little help.

Conclusion

Versa 2 Cookbooks
The Oster VERSA Pro blender, model BLSTVB-RV0, seems to have a nice amount of features for most people. While it may not perform quite as well as a Vitamix, it is around half the retail price of one. There’s still enough power to crush ice in smoothies and make your own homemade peanut butter. Plus, the included recipe booklets will help you enjoy using the blender on day one.

Another big addition is the long 7-year limited warranty that’s included. That’s pretty nice to see on a blender at this price point. If something goes wrong and it’s due to the blender failing, the Oster company should be able to help setup a repair. I’m unsure whether they pay for shipping when handling warranty claims though. I know both Blendtec and Vitamix do, but less expensive brands typically don’t, just so you’re aware.

If you’re looking for any alternatives with similar features at around the same price, check out a certified refurbished Blendtec Total blender. It contains a 1,560 watt motor along with 6 preset modes to choose from. There’s even an illuminated LCD timer to show you how much time is remaining on each blend. I’d recommend checking out the official product page on Amazon for current price and offers here: Blendtec Total Blender
