Blendtec Signature Series – Does it make a mark?

The Blendtec Signature Series is one of the company’s most affordable blenders, priced at just $399 MSRP. Yet, just like the other models, it’s a versatile machine capable of blending through the toughest ingredients. With so many blenders on the market to choose from, it’s difficult to know which one is perfect for your personal needs.

I’ll go over the specifications and features to help you make a smart purchasing decision. Hopefully, by the end of this you’ll have enough knowledge to decide whether this model is right for you. Before we begin, I have to mention that everything is based on my own opinion. Make sure to visit the official Blendtec site to view any current deals.

Power:

The 3-peak horsepower motor found inside the Blendtec Signature Series is the same one found in many of the company’s other models. This allows the blender to easily grind, chop, and mix any ingredient you throw at it. To demonstrate just how powerful the machine is, here’s a video of the machine grinding through a Chromebook laptop.

Obviously, you won’t be using your blender to such extremes, but I think these videos do a great job of showcasing just how capable their blenders are. If the machine can blend a laptop, it’s probably safe to say it’ll handle blending some food ingredients without any problems.

All of this power does make the machine heat up quite a bit though. This heat transfer from the motor to the jar is how the machine is able to make hot soups. It does such a good job that there is actually steam coming off the liquid when it’s done.

You don’t have to worry about the machine overheating though thanks to the clever airflow system built into the base of the machine. Even if it did heat up too much, the motor has a safety feature to turn itself off in the event of excessive heat.

Functionality:

This blender measures in at 7″ wide x 15″ tall x 9.25″ deep. There are a good amount of easy-to-use buttons to choose from on the panel: a pulse button, 5-speed buttons, and even 5 convenient presets. I personally prefer to use a speed dial over separate buttons, but that’s a minor complaint. All of the buttons are responsive and work quite well. I especially like the 5 presets that are included. This allows you to add ingredients to the blender and have it automatically handle the blending process. The options to choose from are: batter, smoothie, ice cream, whole juice, and soup.

I mentioned that the machine heats up when in use. This can ruin cold smoothies if you leave the machine running for too long. To counteract this you can add a few ice cubes to keep the temperature low until everything is mixed completely. Overall though the blender is easy to use and the automatic settings allow for a nice amount of convenience. The machine does the job of multiple kitchen appliances including a juicer, grain mill, and more.

Accessories:

The Fresh Blends recipe book contains over 200 recipes to choose from, all that require 90 seconds or less to make. The other Wildside recipe booklet has simple step-by-step instructions to guide you through recipes tailored for the included 5-sided container.

There’s also a 16-ounce Twister Jar you can purchase which is meant to be used for the thickest recipes such as hummus, shakes, and nut butters. It’s also great for making single-serve smoothies or small batches of a recipe. The Twister Jar comes with a 3-year warranty.

Conclusion:

This is a powerful blender capable of handling a wide variety of recipes. A nice bonus for this model is that it’s only about 15″ tall in total height. This allows the blender to fit under your kitchen cabinets, unlike some other bigger machines. It also comes with a 7-year warranty so you don’t have to worry about it breaking in a few years and having to pay to get it fixed. It gives some nice assurance to know that you’re covered for at least 7 years.

Overall the blender performs better than cheaper brands and just as well as any other high-end brand. I’d like to note that all Blendtec machines are designed and assembled with at least 80% US content at Blendtec’s manufacturing facility in Orem, Utah. If you’re in the market for a quality blender this is definitely a solid choice. I’d also recommend checking out the Designer Series as it has a very modern touchscreen interface built-in. Everyone has different preferences though so choose a blender that has the features that appeal the most to you.
