Blendtec Designer Series – Is it a futuristic line?

The Blendtec Designer Series is one of the most modern blenders currently available on the market today. It has a retail price of $449.95 and includes a long 7-year warranty. The machine combines raw power with advanced technology to produce a contemporary appliance for today’s consumers.

It’s important to make sure this model will fit your personal needs, especially since there are so many different brands and models to choose from. I’ll go over the blender’s features and performance to help you make the best choice. I’ll begin by talking about the overall power of the blender. I’d like to quickly mention that everything in this article, aside from the technical information, is my own opinion.

Power:

The 1,560-watt motor dwarves the smaller motors you find in cheaper brands and is rated at a massive 3-peak horsepower. This allows it to devour any type of tough ingredient with ease. In fact, it’s so powerful that the Blendtec company created a popular web series called “Will it blend?”, which showcases the machine grinding iPhones and other items. If you haven’t seen it before, take a look below for an example.

I’m actually really impressed with those videos and it shows real proof that this blender will handle anything you throw at it. If the blender can handle turning solid metal into dust, it can likely deal with whatever you’re going to use it for. With this power you’re able to do a variety of unique tasks that you may not be able to in alternative blenders. Such as turning raw nuts into homemade nut butter, heating up soups, or even making ice cream.

The blender will be heating up quite a bit, but thanks to the revolutionary airflow system you won’t have to worry about it overheating. Air is sucked in from the sides of the machine and then blown out and away from a special vent underneath the blender. It’s a really clever design and helps ensure your blender stays cool at all times.

Functionality:

Part of its high-performance is also due to the design of the blades themselves. You can see that they’re unlike blades found in other blenders. The company says that they’re blunt instead of sharp that way they crush apart ingredients instead of cutting them. This design also makes it easier and safer when washing the container.

blendtec touchscreenOne of the most striking aspects of this model is definitely the capacitive touch panel. It’s the same touch technology that you use on your modern smartphone. It’s almost futuristic when you first start using the machine. The panel is where you’ll go through the different settings such as changing the speed or selecting the type of recipe you’d like to make.

The 6 presets included are the following: batters, ice crush, smoothie, ice cream, whole juice, and soups. These presets are one of my favorite features to have in a blender. You add your ingredients, select a preset, and the machine will automatically take care of the entire blending process. It makes preparing recipes even easier and is something I tend to recommend people consider the most when looking for a new blender. It can take a little bit of getting used to but they can really make things a lot more convenient for you. Plus you get the added benefit of having consistent results when making recipes.

Accessories:

blendtec wildside seriesThere are a variety of jars to choose from for your Blendtec. I’ll start with the FourSide jar which has a unique square design. This helps create a vortex to suck your ingredients down into the blender’s blades. The jar has markings for up to 32-ounces, though it does hold almost 64-ounces total. I would have liked to see markings along the entire length but it’s a minor complaint.

The WildSide+ jar is what seems to come standard with most of the models available and can hold around 90-ounces. This container adds a fifth side to the jar which increases the speed and efficiency of the machine. According to Blendtec, this produces a 25% boost when blending frozen ingredients for example. They also claim that it can make a full smoothie with fresh fruit and ice in as little as 14 seconds! I usually make fruit smoothies in the morning for breakfast and it seemed to go extremely fast. I never timed it but it definitely takes longer to add the ingredients into the container than it does to actually blend it.

Conclusion:

There’s surely a lot to love about this Blendtec model. The overall power is extremely impressive and a big upgrade if you’ve only ever used cheaper brands before. I think it’s kind of like getting a super car in a way, it’s that big of an increase in performance. I also really love the modern touchscreen and the included 6 automatic presets. It just feels cool to select the options and speed that way. The presets also help make your blending life a lot easier and more convenient.

Warranty

I should reiterate that the blender comes with a 7-year warranty, so you’ll be covered for a long time and can have some peace of mind when purchasing this machine. You’ll be able to get your blender fixed within that time if anything breaks, as long as it isn’t due to human error of course. Blendtec also pays shipping both ways when dealing with repairs which is always nice to hear. The turnaround time varies but everything is handled within the USA and in fact, every Blendtec blender is built here in America, something you don’t see too often with products these days.

Final Thoughts

This blender can do the job of multiple appliances, which is something people don’t consider when looking at this high-end brand. It works great as a blender of course but it’s also a juicer, bread mixer, ice cream maker, and more. In my opinion, it’s better to get one machine that does everything well than to have your kitchen cluttered with multiple one-use devices. Kitchen counter space can be difficult to manage and some other blender brands don’t even fit underneath your cabinets. Thankfully this blender measures in at about 16 inches tall. This means that you’ll be able to slide the entire machine under your cabinets without any problems. So the performance is great, the features are awesome, but the purchase ultimately comes down to what you’re looking for in a blender. You’ll need to look at the pros and cons to decide whether this model suits your specific needs. Thank you for taking the time to read through this and I hope you found it helpful.
